These burls come from the Brown Mallee burl (Eucalyptus dumosa), originate from the south-western coastal regions of Australia and are mainly found in the Goldfield region, where many very similar looking mallees also come from. Mallees are multi-stemmed, small woody trees that grow in a semi-arid climate and tend to produce fine burls on their trunks. These burls can be harvested without felling or injuring the trees, which is why Australian burls are always sold as burl caps. These coffee-colored burls show very fine, almost flawless eye burls without the resin pocket holes typical of eucalyptus burls. The color ranges from a light brown to intense deep brown-yellowish tones, the grain is equal to Amboina in its fineness, the burls are highly valued by woodworkers. The wood is very fine-pored and dense and can be easily turned and worked with sharp tools. Finely sanded surfaces are very smooth and can be polished to a beautiful shine.
